Korea Republic Team for 2010 World Cup

The most successful team from Asia, Korea Republic booked their berth at the FIFA World Cup with four matches won and four matches drawn. Korea republic will be looking for a repeat performance of the 2002 World cup where they reached the semi-finals riding over European power-houses Portugal, Italy, and Spain. Korea Republic currently the best team in Asia was the only unbeaten team at the AFC qualification tournament and won the first two editions of the AFC Asian Cup.

Even though they were held to a goalless draw in both their matches against neighbors Korea DPR, the South Koreans landed the top spot of the qualifiers winning matches against Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates. After a 1-1 tie with Iran, the “red devils” went on to win the win 1-0 and 2-0 against Jordan and UAE respectively, ensuring the position on the top of the table and fixing their spot for the 7th consecutive time in the FIFA World Cup 2010 finals tournament.

Manchester United’s Park Ji-Sung wears the captain’s band and is one of the most indispensable members of the Taeguk Warriors. His ability to create space and opportunities for his team-mates has been exploited by both Manchester United as well as the national team. Monaco’s Park Chu-Young is yet to deliver his best as striker for Korea Republic.

The team is coached by Huh Jung-Moo, who was appointed the national team coach ending the Dutch influence by Guus Hiddink, who was responsible for guiding the team into the semi-finals in 2002. Huh has also coached the U-23 side at the Men's Olympic Football Tournament Sydney 2000. He was the fitness trainer and assistant coach at the World Cup finals in Italy (1990) and USA (1994) respectively.

Coach Huh Jung-Moo was quoted as saying “This will be the last chapter in my football life. I will put in all my energy to achieve good results in the World Cup” as the red devils look to better their 2002 performance at their 8th appearance at the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa.
